Walmart International's AI-powered translation service has become a $20 million annual cost-saving engine since its 2022 launch. The Walmart Translation Platform (WTP) initially focused on Spanish-language queries, adapting regional dialects from Mexico to Chile for precise product discovery.
"We translate intent, not just words," said Arpitha Shetty, Walmart's localization director. The system interprets colloquial expressions across Latin American Spanish variants, mapping them to English catalog entries with contextual accuracy. This linguistic bridge has proven particularly valuable for e-commerce conversions among non-English speaking customers.
